
Southern Pecan Pie
The holiday pie of the pecan belt: a whole layer of toasted pecan halves set in a glossy brown sugar, butter, and honey custard inside a flaky single crust. Sweet, nutty, and sliceable once it cools.
Ingredients

- 2 cups shelled pecan halves, toasted, about 1 cup roughly chopped and 1 cup left whole · about 8 oz shelled, from roughly 1 pound in the shell
From the pantry
- 1¼ cups all-purpose flour · for the crust
- ¾ cup butter, 1/2 cup cold and cubed for the crust, 1/4 cup melted for the filling
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup honey
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar · a little acid keeps the filling from tasting flat
- ¾ tsp salt · 1/4 tsp in the crust, 1/2 tsp in the filling
- ¾ cup heavy cream, softly whipped (optional) · for serving
