A serious disease of laurel-family trees (Lauraceae) caused by a fungus spread by the invasive redbay ambrosia beetle. It has devastated redbay and threatens other laurel-family plants including sassafras, especially in the Southeast, causing rapid wilting and death as the fungus blocks the tree's water-conducting vessels.
